Join us as we go back to roots of tap dancing – improvisation with live music! Dancers from beginners to pro take the stage with the fantastic Michael Cretu Trio. Whether you want to dance, play or simply enjoy seeing tap danced with great jazz musicians, this is an event that everyone will enjoy.

We even have tap shoes that you can try out for free!

Children are welcome as long as they are attended by an adult.

About the class
Ayaka’s approach to tap uses body percussion as well as working towards making rhythms confidently wearing tap shoes.

Variety of steps using shuffles, ball and heels, etc…

Level suitable for those who would love to start tap dancing (absolute beginners) and for those returning to tap after a long break (general).

Max Pollak has many fans in Europe that loves the challenging rhythms and smooth moves in his classes. His specialty is Afro-Cuban rhythms that he blends in a wonderful way with rhythm tap and body percussion.

BODY DRUMMING: All levels (previous experience of rhythms or dance recommended)

Annette is selected for ADAD’s Trailblazer Fellowship 2009-10

TRP’s Annette Walker has recently been awarded the Trailblazer Fellowship 2009-2010 by ADAD (Association of Dance from the African Diaspora) which she plans to use for research and development in tap and jazz music practice, and also towards building an independent tap and live music group.

No Maps on my Taps
Sandman Sims, Chuck Green and Bunny Briggs tell the story of tap as an expression of black heritage and culture. The spirit of tap in its heyday, shown in rare photographs and Hollywood film clips of the 1930s, provides a backdrop for intimate portraits of three surviving ‘hoofers.’

About Tap
Introduced by Gregory Hines who shares his childhood memories of watching and imitating the tap dance greats at the Apollo Theatre, the film focuses on the artistry and style of some of America’s leading male tap dancers including the works of masters Steve Condos, Jimmy Slyde and Chuck Green. The film asks the question, “How does and artist discover their own individual style?” and each of the featured dancers offers a distinctive and highly entertaining answer through their recollections and performances.

Heather Cornell Master Class

“Her dancing is a visual and aural link to some of the great tap masters”
- The Sunday Mercury, Guelph, Ontario, Canada

Heather apprenticed to six of the first generation of American tap masters and has performed with Buster Brown, Cookie Cook, the Copasetics and Silver Belles, Steve Condos and Chuck Green. She established the Manhattan Tap Apprentice Program that is responsible for training today’s generation of tap artists including Max Pollak and Roxanne Butterfly, as well as cast members of Manhattan Tap, Stomp, Bring In da Noise, Bring In da Funk, Tap Dogs, Cool Heat Urban Beat, and Riverdance. She travels extensively, performing and teaching Master Classes and Residencies throughout the world.

These workshops are open to anyone with some experience of tap and you can even use a pair of our tap shoes for free. A great opportunity for dance and music enthusiasts and professionals to get ideas and inspiration.
